Local Spider: Baby Jumping Spider

Local Spider: Baby Jumping Spider

The other day I found this little baby jumping spider sitting on one of my vitamin tablets. (That round one in back is a Bufferin tablet, to give a sense of scale.) The jumping spider is an active predator, usually hunting during daylight. Its large principal eyes give it sharper vision than any other animal its size. It is a formidable hunter.

And this little one is so gosh darned cute.

Those large principal eyes make it look like Ozzy Osbourne.

The jumping spider can jump 20 to 60 or even 75 to 80 times its body length.

Can Ozzy do that?
