Local Insect: Figeater Beetle

Local Insect: Figeater Beetle

This is a Figeater beetle (Cotinis mutabilis). It's a relative of the Junebug and it eats ripe and over-ripe fruit.

I found this one next to the park in my neighborhood. It is quite large, about 30 mm.

This creature is a stunning work of art.

Unfortunately, this particular creature is also dead. It was in the throes of insecticide poisoning when I found it.

Rest in peace, Figeater beetle.
