I lie secluded in the doldrums of the afternoon.
Outside, I hear many small birds singing
and lithe winds sighing through the trees.
I hear distant bells marking the passing hours.
Sometimes I hear my heart beating.
Then I hear my beloved down the hall, calling my name.
"The tide's going out, my sweet --- are you ready?
Are you ready to set sail? The ship will wait for you, my love,
but the sun is sinking in the west, and the tide's going out.
Are you ready?"
And I drift away
to dream of shimmering oceans lapping at my feet,
and I'm flying over a sunrise sea,
as my beloved waves to me from the shore.
