Sunday Bugs: Ghost Spider

Sunday Bugs: Ghost Spider

This is a ghost spider (Anyphaenidae).  It has made a web for itself in a privet leaf in my back yard.

Ghost spiders are mostly nocturnal.  They play an important role in agriculture by eating aphids as well as many other insect pests.

In Europe they are known as buzzing spiders because the male drums with his abdomen on a leaf to attract the female spider's attention.
