Hello! Friday, Friday, Friday! Woo-hoo! *fist pump* (Do people still fist-pump anymore? Maybe I should get a little more au courant.) Anyway, Friday means it's time for more Babelfishing poetry, where I take song lyrics, run them through an on-line translator such as (but not necessarily) Babelfish, tart up the punctuation a bit, and wind up with a quirky kind of poem.
Today is Bobbie Gentry's birthday. She had a huge world-wide hit in 1967 with her song "Ode To Billy Joe," a song so complicated they eventually had to make a movie to try to explain it. It is arguably one of the most analyzed popular songs in history due to the many unanswered questions raised by the lyrics. Perhaps this Babelfished version can shed some light on it (watch a video of Bobbie Gentry performing the song live on the Smothers Brothers show here, or listen to a jazzy instrumental arrangement of the song here). Enjoy.
