I took a little walk today. There was a lot to see but there was even more to hear, because the skies in my neighborhood were a vibrant symphony of nature sounds.
I heard two dozen crows cawing and squawking in a tall redwood tree.
I heard the rat-tat-tat-tat-tat of a woodpecker on a telephone pole.
I heard the melancholy cooing of mourning doves on the electrical wires.
I heard the varied twitters and chirps of little finches, thrushes and sparrows in people's gardens.
I heard the raspy little screams of gray tree squirrels defending their territories.
Today was a day I wish I'd brought my tape recorder with me instead of my camera.
