What I Saw Today

What I Saw Today

I saw a dead arboreal salamander in the ivy a couple of mornings ago, not far from where I found the dead bee. I didn't even know there were salamanders in the ivy. I would have thought it's not wet enough for them in there.

I wish I could have seen it alive.

I took another look at the carcass yesterday, and I saw a three-band garden slug and several terrestrial leeches feeding on it.

Today I found it covered in ants, its forelegs gone and its tail decomposed down to the vertebrae.

The cycle of life.
