King Tide At Baylands

King Tide At Baylands

Here are some pics from a trip on Monday to the Baylands to see this month's king tide.

The salt marsh is inundated.

A yellowlegs, usually seen on exposed mudflats, prowls in the pickleweed for aquatic invertebrates.

More views of channels through the marsh toward the Bay.

A white-tailed kite patrols the marsh looking for small mammals or insects flushed up into the vegetation from the flooded ground.  Kites hunt by facing into the wind and hovering up to 80' in the air until they spot movement on the ground, then diving down to grab the prey with their feet.
