Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve

Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve

Here are some pics from a visit to Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve on Monday.

The view from the start of the Sierra Vista Trail.

California poppies.

A boulder covered in colorful lichen.

Many cattle graze here.

The trail winds toward a scenic overlook.

A horned lark, whose little "horns" are not always visible.

The view north from the scenic overlook.

Blue dicks is a pretty native wildflower with a peculiar name.

Looking back toward the scenic overlook hill.

A few reptiles are catching some sun next to the trail -- a Western fence lizard and a Pacific gopher snake.

Due to the drought there aren't that many wildflowers on the hillsides.

Looking southwest from the parking lot, before heading home.
