Warm Water Cove

Warm Water Cove

Here are pics from a visit on Monday to Warm Water Cove in San Francisco.

It's a beautiful mild spring-like late winter day, and wild radish is in bloom.

A cabbage white butterfly pauses to rest on a leaf.

A trio of California poppies.

In the Bay, a bufflehead turns its head to preen.

Awaiting their turns to be unloaded at the Port of Oakland, the container ships MSC Savona and the Maersk Altair ride at anchor in the Bay.

One of a small flock of American wigeons swim in the cove.

Looking northeast from the park.

The view of Pier 80 to the southeast, where breakbulk, or containerless, cargo is processed (such as bulk steel, components to rebuild the new Bay Bridge eastern span, tunnel boring equipment to construct San Francisco's Central Subway, and production equipment for the Tesla auto plant in Fremont).  Ten years ago a pair of ospreys built a nest atop one of those cranes.  The port shut down the use of the crane to accommodate the avian family.

A UPS cargo jet climbs over the Bay from San Francisco International Airport.

A feral cat from a local colony takes a dust bath in the trail and seems surprised by humans on its turf.

Western gull.

A crane in a drayage company's yard juts up into the late afternoon sky.
