I heard from an old friend about her dog with medical problems. So I wrote:
"I'm glad your dog is going okay for now. Sometimes that's all we have: 'right now,' 'for now.' I learned that from caring for 2 cats with lymphoma and also from living 24/7 with CFIDS/ME and fibromyalgia. You learn to appreciate each moment, each hour, and find a blessing in it somewhere. Sometimes the blessing is that your companion animal is still alive, no more and no less. Sometimes it's that he's doing better. Sometimes it's that the sun finally breaks free of the clouds. It can be anything, but I've come to realize it's there if I look around in the right place."
