Here are some pics from Sunday's visit to Los Trancos Preserve, where it was cloudy and chilly with gale-force winds.
The Franciscan Loop Trail goes into the woods, which provide some shelter from the relentless wind.
A few things are in bloom now. First up, popcorn flower.
Fernald's iris.
Wild strawberry, including a pink blossom.
All the buttercups seem to have tiny insect visitors.
A Douglas fir cone on the trail.
Milkmaids is an early springs woodland flower.
The trail goes through an oak woodland, skirting the edge of the San Andreas Fault.
It wouldn't be a forest without ferns.
