Stevens Creek: In Search Of Water
Stevens Creek: In Search Of Water
Here are pics from Monday's visit to Stevens Creek County Park, where Stevens Creek itself was dry and the reservoir was at only 21% capacity. Yes, our drought is on-going. No, we didn't find water.
The dry creek bed.

The same part of the creek in June had several inches of water flowing right in this same spot.

Dead leaves cover the gravel on the creek bed.

Bracket fungi on the trunk of a small tree.

Dead milk thistle.

Hawksbeard.

Since there is no water flowing in the creek, the upper part of the reservoir is dry too. This area should be under water. Instead, small shrubs and saplings are currently staking their claim.

Autumn means floof.

Telegraph weed, a native wildflower, is establishing a colony in the dry section of the reservoir.

Not far off the trail, someone has built an elaborate tree fort. This was not done by kids, because the grounds were scrupulously clean -- not a single discarded food wrapper, beverage can or any other type of trash in sight.

Floof!

California buckwheat is still in bloom.
